UPDATE: SHOTGUN-WIELDING SUSPECTED DRUNK DRIVER SHOT BY PIGEON FORGE POLICE AFTER CHASE
We now have the identity of the shotgun-wielding suspect shot in Sevier County early this morning.
The TBI says 18-year-old Johnathon A. Sellers, suspected of DUI, led officers in pursuit along U.S. Highway 441 (the Parkway) from Pigeon Forge into Gatlinburg, then back nearly to Sevierville before they shot him.
Sellers refused to pull over when Pigeon Forge officers attempted to stop him just before 4 a.m. His vehicle was eventually disabled by spike strips deployed by Sevierville police at the city line.
When he exited the vehicle, Sellers brandished a shotgun; three Pigeon Forge officers fired, hitting him. Sellers was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, but his condition is unknown. No law-enforcement personnel were injured.
