VEHICLE SLAMS INTO GUARDRAIL, CATCHES FIRE ON I-40 IN PUTNAM COUTNY

The Tennessee Highway Patrol and medics went to the scene of a multi-vehicle crash at the 293 mile marker of I-40 in Putnam County around 8 a.m. today. The report states a 2012 Mercedes sedan driven by 60-year-old Mary E. Linebaugh of Maryville was traveling west when the vehicle hydroplaned, slammed into a guardrail and caught fire. The car became fully engulfed. Linebaugh and a passenger escaped the vehicle and sustained minor injuries.

Just after that accident took place, a 2004 Kenworth tractor-trailer operated by 53-year-old Soulygna Thammavongsa from Greenwood, Arkansas approached the crash scene and could not stop in time. The Kenworth left the right side of the road and came to final rest jackknifed against trees. Thammavongsa was transported by ambulance to Cookeville Regional Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries.
