VETERAN’S BURIAL URN FOUND IN COUPLE’S BACKYARD
Cumberland County veterans came together to hold a graveside service to honor a veteran whose urn was found in a couple’s backyard.
The couple who had just moved in, discovered the urn while cleaning out the backyard. They then turned to their real estate agent for help. The agent called Jack Fogel, the Cumberland County Veterans Assistance Council Director.
“Being the director, I get calls from people around the county that they might have something going on concerning veterans, and this time it was a little bit of an unusual call,” Fogel said.
“We held the burial services; I sent notices out to all the organizations in Cumberland County. And from that point, we had people from the American Legion, the Disabled American veterans, we had the Veterans of Foreign Wars. We had, people from the Veterans Service Office attending, and we had numerous others that support veterans that showed up and attended the services,” he added.
Through some detective work, Fogel uncovered the remains are those of Glenn D. Stimpson, a decorated veteran who served in the Vietnam War.
At least 50 veterans attended the short service to show their support although they did not know him personally.
This is the 2nd Urn that has been found in the last month that has contained the ashes of a veteran. The other one was found in an abandoned storage unit. The person cleaning it out found the Urn and placed it in the hands of the VFW. There will be a graveside service for this individual shortly as soon as they can find out more information about him.
