VIRGIL WHEELER THOMPSON, AGE 39

Funeral services for Virgil Wheeler Thompson, age 39, of Crossville, will be held Saturday, February 29, 2020 at 3 p.m. at Central Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Crossville City Cemetery. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 1 to 3 p.m. central.

In his early years, he enjoyed rollerskating at Woodmere Skating Center; being a lifeguard and waterfront director at Cumberland Mountain State Park pool; and spending time with his family and friends. He went to South Cumberland Elementary School where he won trophies in chess and was student council president. At Cumberland County High School he was awarded Mr. CCHS as well as Junior Class Vice President by his peers with the class of 1998. After graduating Roane State Community College, Virgil graduated The University of Tennessee with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. He also attended Law School at Cal Northern School of Law in Chico, Calif.

He was owner-operator of Roane County Skating Center in Rockwood and worked for many years with his father at First Crossville Title Company. Most recently, he obtained his State Title Insurance License and became a Tennessee Supreme Court Rule 31 Mediator.

He is survived by his wife: Jennifer (Gardner) Thompson; sons: Landon and Virgil; and parents: James and Linda Thompson. He was preceded in death by his grandparents Carl A. Thompson, Ola Dell (Scarborough) Thompson, Virgil Wheeler Jr., Sara (Bayless) Wheeler Panter, and Leighton H. Panter.
