WALMART CEO DOUG MCMILLON TO STEP DOWN IN JANUARY

Walmart announced Friday that CEO Doug McMillon, who transformed the retail giant into a technology-driven powerhouse since 2014 through wage increases, expanded benefits, AI adoption, and lower prices, will retire effective January 31, 2026, and remain on the board until June while advising through fiscal year 2027.
He will be succeeded February 1 by John Furner, a 30-year Walmart veteran who began as an hourly associate in 1993 and rose through leadership roles in merchandising, operations, sourcing, and international markets, most recently as president and CEO of Walmart U.S. and previously Sam’s Club.
Board Chairman Greg Penner praised Furner’s deep understanding of the business and proven ability to deliver results while upholding company values, as McMillon expressed gratitude for the honor of leading the company and pride in associates’ commitment to customers and communities.
