WARTBURG PASSES ORDINANCE AGAINST CAMPING ON PUBLIC PROPERTY

Wartburg City Council Passes Ordinance No. 410-24 Prohibiting Camping on Public Property
The Wartburg City Council has passed Ordinance No. 410-24, amending Title 11 of the City Code to add a new Chapter 9, which prohibits camping on public property. The ordinance is effective immediately and includes the following key provisions:
• Sleeping on Public Property: Sleeping on sidewalks, streets, alleys, or within doorways is prohibited (Section 11-901).
• Camping Restrictions: Camping on public property, including sidewalks, streets, parks, and benches, is banned unless authorized by the Mayor or City Council for special events (Section 11-902).
• Campsite Removal: Campsites found on public property will be removed by the Police Department after a 24-hour notice (Section 11-903).
• Disposition of Personal Property: Items left at campsites may be discarded, stored, or retained by the police based on condition (Section 11-904).
• Penalties: Violators may face fines up to $50 per day and could be referred to social services (Section 11-906).
This ordinance is aimed at ensuring public safety in Wartburg.
