WHITE CO SHERIFF’S OFFICE, DEPUTIES SUED OVER WRONGFUL DEATH OF SPARTA MAN

The White County sheriff and two deputies have been sued by the son of a man killed exactly a year ago by a deputy who was attempting to serve a warrant on the man.  January 7th 2021, Deputies went to the home of Charles Williams to serve a warrant for running from a traffic stop one day before.

The lawsuit states Assistant District Attorney Russell Tribble spoke with deputies and the sheriff on the scene, instructing them they were “good to make the forced entry”  When Deputies kicked in the front door of the house Williams was staying, he ran out the back door. Once Williams was caught, he pulled out his wallet.  That’s when the deputy shot Williams.  The 47-year-old Williams was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.  In the civil suit, Williams son Michaels claims his father’s civil rights were violated when deputies kicked in the front door of the house to make the arrest.  TBI says that deputies followed Williams to the back deck, and for reasons still under investigation, Williams ran toward the deputy. The deputy fired at Williams, striking him.”  White county sheriffs depart says Mr. Williams was no stranger to the sheriff’s office since he had prior non-violent interactions with deputies
