Popular smartwatch company Fitbit is voluntarily recalling roughly one million smartwatches because the battery in the accessory can overheat, posing a burn risk.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission said in addition to the one million sold in the U.S., about 693,000 were sold internationally.

This recall only involves the Fitbit Ionic Smartwatch which is used to track activity, heart rate and sleep.

It was sold with a polyurethane band and has a 1.4-inch color LCD screen. To determine if your watch is under recall, the model number (FB503) is on the back of the device, near where the band attaches.

Only the following models and colors are included in this recall:

• Ionic FB503CPBU — Slate Blue/Burnt Orange
• Ionic FB503GYBK — Charcoal/Smoke Gray
• Ionic FB503WTGY — Blue Gray/Silver Gray
• Ionic FB503WTNV — Adidas edition, Ink Blue & Ice Gray/Silver Gray

Fitbit said people should stop using the affected watches immediately. The fitness company has received at least 115 reports in the United States of the lithium-ion battery in the watch overheating. Seventy-eight reports included burn injuries; there were two reports of third-degree burns and four reports of second-degree burns.

The watches were sold at Best Buy, Kohl’s, Target and other stores nationwide and online at Amazon.com and Fitbit.com from September 2017 through December of last year.

Contact Fitbit to receive pre-paid packaging to return the device and receive a refund. Fitbit said the company will also provide participating consumers with a 40% discount off select Fitbit devices.
