CUMBERLAND COUNTY DEPUTIES DISPATCHED TO QUELL SUICIDE THREAT

On Sunday, Cumberland County deputies were dispatched to Plateau Road in reference to a male barricading himself inside the residence. Dispatch advised deputies that the male had made suicide threats and mentioned: “suicide by a cop”. Upon arrival, a female said she was on the phone with a friend talking about her relationship problems. Her boyfriend, Wayne Carpenter, overheard her conversation and became irate. The two of them argued and he went back inside where he began to call and text stating he had locked himself into a bedroom and was going to harm himself. Carpenter said if deputies showed up, he would try to attempt “suicide by a cop”. Cumberland County and City police joint S.W.A.T. teams were activated. After negotiations, Carpenter emerged from the residence without incident. He was then transported to the Cumberland County Medical Center for a mental evaluation. There are no pending charges.
