A recently hired worker is facing a felony theft charge in Cumberland County after allegedly stealing a truck and trailer valued at $20,000 from his new employer.

According to court documents, 18-year-old Gabrien L. Songer of Pikeville, Tennessee, is scheduled to appear in Cumberland County General Sessions Court on July 30, 2026. He is charged with theft of property between $10,000 and $60,000 following an investigation by the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office.

The charges stem from an incident on June 22, 2026, when Deputy Shane Henderson responded to a property on Vandever Road regarding a stolen vehicle report. The property owner reported that his 1994 Ford F-350 truck and a 2008 35-foot flatbed trailer had been taken. He told law enforcement he had just hired Songer for day labor and that Songer was the only person who knew the specific location of the truck and trailer on the property.

At the scene, investigators tracked tire marks cutting through the rear of the property, driving through a gate into an adjacent field, and plowing through a fence onto the roadway. The damaged gate and fence, belonging to a neighboring property on Brewer Road, sustained an estimated $3,500 in damage.

Following up on the lead, officers located Songer’s residence on Park Road in Pikeville. Local dispatch subsequently confirmed that officers located the stolen Ford truck and flatbed trailer on the property.

Songer was formally charged on June 24, 2026, and has retained defense attorney Howard Upchurch to represent him in the matter.
