18-YEAR-OLD TO APPEAR IN CUMBERLAND COUNTY COURT ON DRUG, CONTRABAND, AND EVASION CHARGES

On Monday, June 15th, 2026, Zackery Ray Knight is scheduled to appear on the Cumberland County General Sessions criminal court docket following his arrest on May 5th, 2026. The charges stem from an incident late on the night of May 4th, when Deputy Aidyn Smith observed Knight and another male sitting with the headlights off in a 2000 black Ford Mustang parked behind the closed Vandever Market.

Upon making contact, Deputy Smith discovered that Knight had driven the vehicle from Ted Davis Road despite lacking a valid driver’s license. When instructed to exit the vehicle, Knight refused, put the Mustang in reverse, and accelerated rapidly around the building, ultimately striking a boulder and crashing into a gas pump barrier before being taken into custody.

A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed drug paraphernalia and unauthorized controlled substances. Deputy Smith observed several pieces of burnt tinfoil on the floorboard and located a pill bottle labeled with another individual’s name next to Knight’s leg, which contained three Buprenorphine Hydrochloride pills (a Schedule III controlled substance). Additionally, investigators found five cut straws coated with a crystal-like substance.

Following his arrest, Knight was transported to the Cumberland County Jail by Deputy Leary, where correctional officers discovered another piece of burnt tinfoil on the intake floor; under Miranda, Knight admitted to dropping the item. Consequently, Knight faces five specific charges filed by Deputy Smith: evading arrest by vehicle, contraband in a penal facility, simple possession/casual exchange, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, and driving without a license.
