19-year-old Logan Loftis of Cookeville accidentally drowned Monday at the Obey River recreation swimming area on Dale Hollow Lake.

According to family sources, the drowning occurred during a planned family outing to Obey River Recreation Area Swimming Beach for Memorial Day.

Family members said that the event was going well, with lots of laughs, cornhole, and spending time together.

Several members attending the outing went into the lake and attempted to swim to a buoy.  Loftis was quickly out of breath and started to panic.  Several people tried to get to Loftis and pull him out of the water but had no luck.

Visitation and services for Loftis will be at Crest Lawn Funeral Home Friday, May 31, 2024, from 5 pm – 7 pm.
