2 ADDITIONAL SUSPECTS SENTENCED IN STATE FRAUD CONSPIRACY
Two additional suspects have been sentenced to prison in a scheme that resulted in defrauding taxpayers of millions. 52-year-old Luis Carvajal of Loudon and 50-year-old Amado Valdez-Morales of Oak Ridge both received hefty prison sentences for conspiracy in submitting false tax returns and for money laundering. Valdez-Morales was also charged with being in the country illegally. He will be deported once discharged from prison. A news release says the scheme included using fake ID documents to get refundable tax credits, resulting in $10.8 million stolen from taxpayers. Four others were already charged in the scheme.
