2 CONVICTED FELONS CHARGED IN SHOOTING DEATH OF LOUDON COUNTY MAN

Two convicted felons are in jail charged with the murder of a Loudon County man. Sheriff Tim Guider says that the body of William “Billy” Roberts was found dead of a gunshot wound to the head at his Dutton Rd. home Saturday morning. Robby Covington and James Clapham have been charged in the incident which started out as a robbery. Both men say that they knew Roberts had a large sum of money and that they were going to rob him. Each man, however, is blaming the other for the shooting. Authorities say the men broke into the home with their faces covered, stole money, guns and drugs, then struck Roberts with a blunt object before shooting him. Both men then left, dropping money and the firearms behind them. They apparently went to Clapham’s father’s house in Madisonville to divide the cash. During the investigation, three firearms were collected as evidence. One gun found in a field, is believed to be the murder weapon. Investigators closed Dutton Road to preserve evidence. After talking with neighbors, investigators were able to identify a person of interest and notified the Blount County Sheriff’s Office. At 2:00 p.m. a person of interest was detained by the Blount County Sheriff’s Office attempting to travel to Texas.
