Two people were killed in a car wreck that closed Tellico Parkway near the saddle dam area for several hours on Saturday morning. According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol, the driver of a Honda, Whitney Sande, drove head-on into a Toyota driven by Leann Newman. The vehicles were traveling on State Highway 44. A preliminary investigation revealed that Newman attempted to swerve over to the shoulder in an attempt to avoid the crash before she was struck. Both drivers died in the crash.
