20-YEAR-OLD SUSTAINS SERIOUS INJURIES IN SPARTA DRIVE CRASH

On July 30, 2025, at approximately 12:22 a.m., a single-vehicle crash occurred at 930 Sparta Drive in Crossville, Cumberland County, Tennessee, resulting in serious injuries to the driver, 20-year-old Ian Matias. According to the Tennessee Electronic Traffic Crash Report filed by the Crossville Police Department, Matias was driving a red 2013 Ford Mustang eastbound when he reportedly fell asleep, causing the vehicle to veer across the oncoming lane and partially into a ditch.
The Mustang then struck a culvert, flipped onto its roof, spun, and hit trash cans before coming to a stop. Matias, who was wearing a shoulder and lap belt, sustained injuries to his lower abdomen, lower back, and knee and was transported by EMS to Cumberland Medical Center. The vehicle, which sustained disabling damage, was towed from the scene.
The investigation, led by Officer Sherrill, noted clear weather, dry road conditions, and no traffic control devices at the non-junction site, with the crash attributed to Matias’ failure to stay in the proper lane and operator inexperience, potentially exacerbated by falling asleep. No alcohol or drug use was suspected, and the roadway was cleared by 1:37 a.m.
