5.9 MILLION FRENCH PRESS COFFEE MAKERS SOLD AT WALMART RECALLED DUE TO BURN AND BREAKAGE HAZARD

Bodum USA has announced a massive recall of approximately 5.9 million French Press coffee makers following reports of glass carafes unexpectedly breaking and causing burns.
The recall affects 8-cup and 12-cup replaceable glass carafe models—including the Bistro, Brazil, Caffettiera, Chambord, Crema, Java, Jesper, and Kenya lines. According to the announcement, the glass can break during use if it is damaged, cracked, or subjected to stirring with metal spoons or utensils, posing serious burn risks to consumers.

Key Details of the Recall:

  • The Hazard: Damaged or cracked carafes—often exacerbated by using metal spoons to stir coffee—can unexpectedly shatter or break during use, leading to 70 reported incidents and 48 injuries involving burns.
  • Affected Products: Sold nationwide at major retailers like Target, Walmart, Amazon, and Bodum’s website from 1974 through October 2026, priced between $15 and $65.
  • The Remedy: Consumers are urged to immediately stop using metal spoons in the glass carafes. Instead, contact Bodum to receive a free replacement plastic stirring spoon and a warning label.
