$700 VANISHES DURING MEDICAL EMERGENCY AT PEAVINE ROAD GAS STATION NEAR CROSSVILLE

On March 10, 2026, an officer with the Crossville Police Department spoke with a complainant at the Justice Center regarding a reported theft of $700 in cash. The individual described experiencing a medical emergency around 2:00 p.m. on March 6, 2026, at Mr. Zips gas station on Peavine Road in Crossville, Tennessee. During the incident, he reportedly handed over personal items—including two necklaces, his ID, vehicle insurance card, and the cash—to the ambulance personnel as he was being loaded for transport by EMS. He was initially taken to Cumberland Medical Center before being transferred to UT Medical Center in Knoxville, where he regained consciousness.

Upon waking, he inquired about his belongings and discovered the $700 was missing. Hospital staff suggested checking with Cumberland Medical Center for any items that might have been secured there. When he later retrieved his other possessions from the hospital, the cash was not included. He contacted EMS supervisors multiple times, but was told he would need to reach out to various stations individually, with no resolution. He had previously filed a report with the Knoxville Police Department about the matter and expressed willingness to press charges if the money was confirmed stolen, potentially by EMS or hospital staff.

The officer noted uncertainties in the account: it was unclear whether the complainant actually possessed $700 at the time, whether it was stolen or simply misplaced, and inconsistencies in his recollection—he first described the location but later stated he remembered nothing until waking in Knoxville. A check of CAD records for the incident at the gas station address yielded no results, raising questions about whether the event occurred within Crossville jurisdiction. Despite these doubts, a theft report was filed under the category of all other larceny due to the allegation involving local EMS or medical center personnel. The reported value of the stolen U.S. currency is $700, with the Crossville Police Department listed as the owner in the property section of the report.
