84-YEAR-OLD FAIRFIELD RESIDENT REPORTS $1,200 SCAM TO POLICE

On July 24, 2025, an 84-year-old resident of Jasper Drive, Fairfield Glade, Tennessee, reported a scam to the Fairfield Glade Police Department, resulting in a $1,200 loss. The individual received an email, supposedly from Geek Squad, claiming a non-existent contract would be renewed.
Believing it to be an error, they contacted the provided number and spoke with someone claiming to be James Martin, who deceived them into sharing personal information. The scammer then misled them into believing they had accidentally received $2,000 instead of $200 and instructed them to purchase $1,200 in gift cards to settle the difference.
The resident complied, buying gift cards from a high-end store and providing their details to the scammer. When directed to purchase additional gift cards from an Apple Store in Knoxville, the resident recognized the scam and ended the call.
The scammers attempted to contact them 42 times afterward, but the calls were ignored. The resident informed their bank of the scam and filed a report with Deputy Fatima Pena, understanding the lost funds were likely unrecoverable but wanting the incident documented.
