STOLEN TRUCK RECOVERED IN ROANE COUNTY

Tuesday night, Roane County deputies responded to a reported vehicle theft. The owner said he’d entrusted 45-year-old James Allen Miles to put gas in his truck February 5 and bring it back that day. Miles never returned the truck.

The owner said a friend called him Monday to say his truck had been seen on Post Oak Road.

When he got there, Miles left in his truck. The owner followed the truck as far as he could until Miles went off road near Bournemouth Rd.

Deputies went to a home on Bournemouth Road; the truck was not there. But on the way to the sheriff’s office, they encountered Miles driving the vehicle. The tag on the vehicle came back as having been stolen from Knox County.

A deputy attempted to stop Miles, who was heading south on Gateway Avenue in Rockwood. Miles engaged police in pursuit onto Kingston Avenue, then onto Tarwater. He hit spike strips near Ables Valley and Winton Chapel roads, attempted to turn left and hit a ditch.

Upon approaching the vehicle, deputies told Miles to slide over to the passenger side and keep his hands in view. He attempted to reach under the seat, then tried to pull away from deputies and so was forcibly removed from the vehicle and taken into custody.

Miles – who had four outstanding Roane County warrants – was charged with theft of a motor vehicle, driving on a revoked license, evading arrest and resisting arrest, along with four outstanding Roane County warrants.
