U.S. Highway 441 (the Parkway) has been temporarily closed at the Sevierville/Pigeon Forge city limits as TBI investigates an officer-involved shooting overnight. The shooting occurred near Apple Valley Road after Sevierville police deployed spike strips to stop a fleeing motorist’s vehicle, just after 4 a.m. Pigeon Forge police said the suspect exited his vehicle and was brandishing a weapon. Officers were forced to shoot.

It is not known at this time whether it was the Sevierville or the Pigeon Forge police involved in the shooting incident.

Detours have been established. One southbound lane of traffic has been reopened (after having earlier been diverted through the IHOP). All northbound traffic is being re-routed to Fox Road. Motorists should expect delays.

TBI spokesperson Leslie Earhart would not give details as to the extent of the injuries, or whether the shooting was fatal; but she confirmed no law-enforcement personnel were injured.
