COOKEVILLE MAN ARRESTED SUNDAY ON KIDNAPPING, THEFT CHARGES

A Cookeville man was arrested Sunday for allegedly threatening his ex-girlfriend with a knife during an incident Thursday.

Police received a call from 30-year-old Preston Walker’s ex-girlfriend; she said Walker threatened to harm her and himself.

She told police Walker entered her bedroom Thursday night and confronted her about “suspected infidelity.”

Walker allegedly got on top of the woman with a knife, made stabbing motions with the blade, and covered her mouth so she couldn’t scream.

Warrants indicate Walker also caused the woman’s lip to bleed and shoved her against a wall. The woman eventually convinced Walker to drive to the store for cigarettes, where he reportedly threatened to kill her and others if she escaped.

The woman got free after Walker left the vehicle; she called police from a gas station on North Willow Avenue.

Officers were later able to contact Walker, who stole a cell phone belonging to his ex-girlfriend’s friend; Walker told officers he was hiding in a wooded area nearby.

Walker was arrested for aggravated kidnapping and theft of property; he remains in the Putnam County Jail on $25,500 bond. His initial court appearance is scheduled for April 29.
