MAY IS OFFICIALLY GRAPE AND WINE APPRECIATION MONTH IN TENNESSEE

It’s official. May is Tennessee Grape and Wine Appreciation Month.

Governor Bill Lee issued a proclamation declaring it so.

A 2017 agriculture census determined there are 67 wineries and more than 500 acres of grapes grown in Tennessee. And the grape and wine industries in the state collectively employ more than 400 people.

What’s more, the industry brings in about $736 million into the state’s economy each year.

In March, Lee signed a bill easing some restrictions on the state’s wineries. The bill allows small wineries to open up to two satellite facilities without having to go through a licensed wholesaler for distribution.
