BODY OF 10 YEAR OLD RECOVERED IN BIG SOUTH FORK

A child who drowned in the Big South Fork National River & Recreation Area has been identified as Ryelin Acres, 10, of Oneida.

He was a rising fifth grader at Burchfield School.

Reportedly, rescue personnel recovered the body late Wednesday morning, about 17 hours after he was swept underwater Tuesday afternoon. EMS was summoned back to the area of O&W Bridge around 11:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Niki Nicholas, superintendent of the Big South Fork NRRA, said late Tuesday that the boy was swimming in White Oak Creek when he disappeared in the water and was presumed to have drowned.

First responders were summoned to the area after a 911 call was received shortly after 4 p.m. Tuesday. The O&W is about a half-hour drive from Oneida and cell service.

White Oak Creek empties into the Big South Fork River about a mile downstream from O&W Bridge.
