NEW LEGISLATION PROPOSED THAT WOULD CREATE NEW SCHOOL BUS TRAINING PROGRAM

Gov. Bill Haslam is backing new legislation which could make school buses safer. Rep. David Hawk introduced the bill which would create a new school bus training program that all drivers would be required to take and pass before getting behind the wheel. Drivers would have to be 25-years-of-age before being allowed to drive. The law would also require a school bus supervision program that would monitor and oversee local transport services. There is no provision for seat belts. $350,000 has been provided in the governor’s proposed budget for such a program.
