MISTRIAL DECLARED IN CUMBERLAND COUNTY RAPE CASE

A judge declared a mistrial after a Cumberland County jury could not reach a unanimous verdict in a rape case. Court officials say 39-year-old Benny Mullins stood accused after a teenager accused him of the act. A poll showed eight jurors thought Mullins was guilty while four said he was not guilty. Since the jury could not come to a unanimous decision, Judge Gary McKenzie set a November 4, 2019 hearing to determine the status of the case.
