The Morgan County Commission this week approved site studies on two prospective locations to help solve the inmate overcrowding issue at the jail. The first location would involve an expansion of the current jail and the second is the old Chilton Tractor Company location on Highway 27 just before the 27/62 merge. The Morgan County jail was decertified nearly six years ago but the county has received a provisional certificate each year since. A meeting has been set in December with Tennessee Corrections Institute officials regarding the plan.
