CUMBERLAND COUNTY NOW “SECOND AMENDMENT SANCTUARY COUNTY”

Cumberland County is now a Second Amendment Sanctuary County. The county commission passed the resolution in their meeting last night 15-1 with Commissioner Deborah Holbrook being the sole no vote. Holbrook said in the meeting the resolution was a “meaningless gesture.”
Commissioners Rebecca Stone and Colleen Mall were not able to attend.
Right after the meeting started, Commissioner Holbrook made a motion to not only remove the Second Amendment sanctuary resolution off the agenda but the one pertaining to the no consent to a refugee settlement in Cumberland County. The motion did not get a second and both were left on the agenda.
Several citizens spoke to the county commission in support of the Second Amendment sanctuary resolution.
The resolution states:
“The Cumberland County Commission hereby expresses its intent to uphold the Second Amendment rights of the citizens of Cumberland County and its intent that public funds of the county not be used to restrict Second Amendment rights or to aid in the unnecessary and unconstitutional restrictions of the rights under the Second Amendment of the citizens of Cumberland County to bear arms. The Cumberland County Board of Commissioners hereby declares its intent to oppose unconstitutional restrictions on the right to keep and bear arms through such legal means as may be expedient. The Cumberland County Commission hereby declares Cumberland County as a “Second Amendment Sanctuary.”
