EARTH DAM PARTIALLY COLLAPSES IN MONTEREY

An earth dam partially collapsed late yesterday at a 17 acre lake off Industrial Drive in Monterey. It was close to Perdue Farms and Lakeside Deli. Water moved down the Calfkiller area towards White County. The National Weather Service initially issued a flash flood warning for eastern Putnam County and northwestern Cumberland County but minutes later discontinued the warning for Cumberland County and added eastern White County. White County Executive Denny Wayne said last night the water the earth dam was holding was around 40’ deep and the majority of the volume of water should disperse before reaching White County. Putnam County Emergency Management says about 20 feet of water drained out of where the earth dam collapsed around 5:47 p.m. The flash flood warning was lifted around 9 p.m. central.
