FEDERAL LAWSUIT FILED IN REGARDS TO 2019 DEATH OF ROANE COUNTY INMATE

The mother of a man that died while incarcerated in the Roane County jail has filed a federal lawsuit against the county and Southern Health Partners. Deborah Edwards said her son, 43-year-old Joshua Daniels, was arrested on drug charges. On the morning of February 22, 2019, Daniels started to vomit while in a holding cell following being processed and died over two hours later at Roane Medical Center. The suit claims medical staff contracted for the jail failed to provide detoxification medication to Daniels and he allegedly went 13 hours without being examined. Edwards is seeking compensatory and punitive damages to be determined by a jury.
