SHOOTING IN CUMBERLAND COUNTY SENDS MAN TO U.T. MEDICAL CENTER

Cumberland County deputies and medics responded to a home on Rattlesnake Drive in the Rinnie area yesterday afternoon for a shooting. Officers found 54-year-old Michael Kevin Hensley with a gunshot wound to his left hand. He told officers his wife was clearing the 9mm handgun when it went off. He was taken to a landing zone where Lifestar took him to U.T. Medical Center for treatment.
According to the report, his wife told deputies different versions of the events. She claimed Michael Hensley threw her down on the floor of the home and had his knee on her throat. She managed to get free and Michael later got the gun out of a vehicle. That allegedly resulted in another physical altercation for the weapon. The female was able to get the handgun and attempted to put it down on a garbage can when it went off striking Michael.
Another version was during the struggle for the gun, Michael tried to get the weapon away from her when it went off.
During the investigation, a deputy asked the victim if she used the pistol in self-defense which she reportedly stated yes.
After consulting with the assistant district attorney, a warrant was taken out on Michael Hensley for domestic assault. It will be served on him once he is released from the hospital.
