A Cumberland County grand jury handed down indictments yesterday against 33-year-old Kyle Allen Sternquist for aggravated assault, possession of a handgun while intoxicated, resisting arrest and public intoxication.

The incident took place last month (March 2021) in a parking lot off of Highway 70 East. Police encountered 31-year-old Kayle Brooke Ellis of Murfreesboro with her upper body covered in blood. A witness told authorities he saw 33-year-old Kyle Allan Sternquist of Murfreesboro on top of the victim in a vehicle hitting her. The citizen opened the car door, pulled Sternquist off of the woman and a empty gun holster fell out of the vehicle. The firearm was secured.

Sternquist is scheduled to be arraigned in criminal court May 11, 2021.
