Monterey Mayor J.J. Reels announced over the weekend on Facebook that he is going to resign. Here is the statement:

Due to ongoing medical concerns, I will be resigning my seat and stepping down as the Mayor of Monterey at Monday night’s board meeting. It has been an honor and privilege to serve the residents of Monterey these last 4 years and I wish nothing but continued success to the residents and the Town of Monterey. I will continue to serve the people of Monterey as a volunteer, just not in an official capacity.
