MURFREESBORO WOMAN LEFT 5 WEEK INFANT IN HOT CAR

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – First responders saved a 5-week-old baby locked inside a hot SUV earlier this month. The original call was for a welfare check around 5 PM on Monday, June 13 after a customer saw a woman acting strangely in the Kroger parking lot on Old Fort Parkway. When authorities arrived, they found 27-year-old Alexandria Lee standing outside a locked SUV swaying to keep her balance. It was 97 degrees outside with a heat index of 108 this day. Officers were told that there could possibly be a baby in the vehicle. The windows to the SUV were tinted and hard to see inside but the two police officers shattered the window. Inside was a five-week-old boy under blankets, sweating and barely breathing. As the men worked to cool the baby, an off-duty nurse came over to help. It’s estimated he was in the car for 20 minutes. But today the baby is alive and well thanks to firefighters, EMS, and all other emergency personnel.

Police said they found a half-empty opened bottle of Tequila in the car. She was charged with a DUI, child abuse, and child neglect.

A hearing is scheduled for Aug. 15.
