STOLEN TRUCK LEADS TO METHAMPHETAMINE BUST IN CUMBERLAND COUNTY

On September 12, the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office received information about a white Dodge truck that was stolen from Dekalb County that could potentially be behind a residence on Lantana Drive in Cumberland County.  The truck was stated to be worth about $40,000 and all the tools in the truck were estimated at around $50,000. This included a welder, an air compressor, and a fuel tank.

The residence belonged to Adam Smith. Upon arrival, Dorothy Ray, Smith’s girlfriend, answered the door. She was told she was allowed to leave the property but chose to stay. After Smith was located, he was questioned about the stolen truck and said his friend Nicholas Todd was given the truck after the company he worked for was unable to pay him. However, Nicholas told deputies Adam Smith stole the truck and he knew he had taken it but that “he was a grown man and could do what he wanted to do”.

After a search warrant, deputies observed a pipe, scales, empty plastic bags, marijuana, and 9.5 oz of methamphetamine. They also found the Dodge truck that was reported missing behind the residence partially covered with cut limbs and a tarp covering the windshield. Some tools were recovered, but more investigation will determine if they were all accounted for.  Outside, under a Ford Mustang, approximately 16 grams of what looked like methamphetamine was found.

Adam Smith, Dorothy Ray, and Nicholas Todd were all arrested and taken into custody.
