SCRAPS OF A STOLEN VEHICLE RECOVERED

On Thursday, a Cumberland County investigator received a phone call from an employee of Roane Metals Group on HWY 127N. The worker stated that his system had notified him that a vehicle he had bought for scrap a few days prior was showing that it had been stolen. When checking, it showed that the 2002 Hyundai Santa Fe had been stolen from Putnam County in the spring of 2021. The vehicle was missing all wheels and tires, the passenger side windows were broken and the car was damaged. The catalytic converter had been cut off and the vehicle was in very poor condition.
When the investigator spoke with Putnam County, they stated Kristan Smith had been charged in this case. The detective in charge of the case was able to notify the original owners of the vehicle and let them know what was left of the vehicle had been recovered. The value of the remains was $242.
