FATAL CRASH ON I-40 INVOLVING 14 VICTIMS

PUTNAM COUNTY, TENN – At approximately 11:05am, there was an accident involving two vehicles on I-40 Eastbound, at the 291 mile marker. There were a total of 14 victims involved in this incident. There were three fatalities, including two juveniles and one adult. Five patients were flown to Vanderbilt University Hospital ER, and six patients were transported by PCEMS ground units to Cookeville Regional Medical Center ER.

The air medical services that transported the patients to Vanderbilt included Life Force, LifeFlight, Life Star, and Air Evac.

There were multiple agencies involved in this accident including: Putnam County EMS, Putnam County 911, Hancock County EMS, Putnam County Rescue Squad, Putnam County Fire Department, Putnam County Sheriff’s Office, Tennessee Highway Patrol, Tennessee Department of Transportation, and Putnam County EMA.

Due to the numerous agencies that responded to this accident, Mutual Aid was called with White County EMS, Cumberland County EMS, Overton County EMS, and Jackson County EMS responding to Putnam County to provide assistance, if needed.

At this time, no additional information will be released due to this being an on-going investigation by the Tennessee Highway Patrol.
