Cumberland County authorities say a suspicious device found on the 3400 block of North Main Street today was a military-style mortar. The device was found on the property of a business.

The Knoxville Bomb Squad carefully assessed and neutralized the device to ensure the safety of all involved.

The Crossville Police Department, Crossville Fire, Cumberland County Fire, Cumberland County Emergency Management Agency, and the Knoxville Bomb Squad responded to the scene.

The investigation into the origin and nature of the device is currently ongoing.

The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office, in partnership with other relevant agencies, will conduct a thorough investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding this incident.

Traffic was heavy around the scene as the bomb squad worked to resolve the situation. North Main Street at and near the scene reopened at 3 p.m. after being closed.
