OFFICERS ARREST SUSPECT IN ROANE COUNTY WILDFIRE INCIDENT

UPDATE: Roane County deputies arrested 54-year-old Billy Joe Wright Monday night at a residence on Swan Pond Road in Harriman.

Deputies with the Roane County Sheriff’s Office responded to 221 Edwards Road in Harriman to a call of an unknown male making threats to burn a house down.

Before the officers arrived on the scene, the male suspect went into the woods behind some houses and set several fires.

Multiple volunteer fire departments, including the forestry division, responded to the scene.

During the course of fighting the fires, a bulldozer operator with the forestry division was injured when it turned over. He was transported to Roane Medical Center for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Deputies were able to identify the suspect as 54-year-old Billy Wright of Harriman.

A warrant has been issued for Wright for aggravated arson.

The majority of the fire has been contained.

No structures were damaged and no further injuries were reported.
