The Tennessee Highway Patrol and medics responded to a school bus accident late yesterday afternoon in eastern Cumberland County.

The report released this afternoon states a 2015 Hyundai Accent driven by 24-year-old Jodi M. Jenkins of Madisonville, Tennessee, got off I-40 at the Westel exit, failed to come to a halt at a stop sign, and rammed into a school bus operated by 50-year-old Karen P. Golliher.

Troopers did not indicate in the report if any students were on board. The accident happened at 4:23 p.m. central.

The report states Jenkins and Golliher sustained injuries in the accident.

Jenkins fled the scene. Troopers captured her shortly after at a local convenience store.

Jenkins was arrested for DUI, violation of the implied consent law, failure to exercise due care, failure to render aid, leaving the scene of an injury crash, reckless endangerment, driving on a suspended license, and two counts of simple possession of drugs.

This is the second accident in four days for Golliher. A motorist fell asleep and rear-ended her school bus on Highway 70 near the Westel fire hall last Friday while she was stopped to pick up a student. She was not hurt in that crash.
