REPORT RELEASED OF VEHICLE ACCIDENT CAUSING POWER OUTAGE ON COOK ROAD IN CROSSVILLE

The Crossville Police Department released a report this morning of a vehicle accident that resulted in numerous Volunteer Electric customers being without power for a few hours.

The report states a 2010 Dodge driven by 20-year-old Miguel Angel Francisco of Crossville was traveling on Cook Road near Short Road last Saturday when he lost control and left the road.

The vehicle struck a utility pole, causing damage. The pole fell across the roadway, blocking both lanes of travel on Cook Road for a few hours.

Power was knocked out to numerous residents as a result.

The police officer noted Francisco was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash. He was charged with DUI and underaged consumption of alcohol.

Francisco was not hurt in the accident.

It was the second of three vehicle versus utility pole accidents in the past seven days in Cumberland County.

The first occurred on Lantana Road on December 28, 2023, resulting in over 3,000 VEC customers going without power for a few hours.

The third one happened this morning (Wednesday, January 3, 2024) on Highway 127 South near Homestead Market. VEC reported nearly 3,000 customers lost power.
