CROSSVILLE CITY COUNCIL APPROVES NEW BUS RESTRICTION ORDINANCE

The Crossville City Council voted yesterday to approve a new ordinance that would restrict commercial bus businesses from being able to make unscheduled bus stops within the city. This effectively means that private charter businesses will not be able to drop off passengers at areas not deemed an “established place of business” without penalty.
According to the ordinance, an “established place of business” refers to “a physical structure located within the City of Crossville that is occupied at a continuous or regular period for the purpose of business activity for which they are properly licensed for.”
The term doesn’t include residences, tents, temporary stands, or permanent quarters which are temporarily occupied. Established businesses must be on file in the City Clerk’s office and with the Tennessee Department of Revenue, and must hold regular, consistent business hours.
The ordinance doesn’t apply to vehicles operated by the federal government or any related department, school busses, or vehicles meant for transporting disabled passengers.
Violators of the ordinance could be cited into City Court, and could recieve a fine of not less than $2.00 nor more than $50.00 for each offense.
And failure to comply with the ordinance may see the revocation or denial of any licenses or permits.
