YMCA TO START 5-YEAR FUNDRAISER FOR REC CENTER OPERATIONAL ASSISTANCE

An upcoming fundraiser by the Putnam YMCA to assist with operational costs for the new recreation center in Crossville was approved during a Crossville Sports Authority meeting on Tuesday.

According to Putnam YMCA CEO Mandy Perhay, the first $2 million collected will go toward the YMCA to properly equip the recreation center, and the Sports Authority will pay for fixtures and furnishings. The total cost is an estimated $10 million to be collected over five years.

City Attorney Randall York described the funds as aspirational, meant to enhance the project.

The Sports Authority and YMCA will open a bank account at One Bank where the funds will be deposited under the YMCA and Authority’s guidance.

The plan is that the collected funds will cover payroll, purchase computers, and various other minor items that come up and sustain the Center until it can break even.

The Rec Center is expected to have a groundbreaking ceremony late this month.
