CROSSVILLE, TN – The Crossville Police Department recently renovated one of its interview rooms to create its first soft interview room, thanks to funding from the Trauma Informed Community Alliance (TICA).
A soft interview room is a comfortable space designed to put interviewees, specifically victims or survivors, at ease. The room features velvet chairs, a bright rug, and a fresh coat of paint, all aimed at improving interactions with traumatized crime victims. Detectives can now use the soft interview room to accommodate and interview victims, which will lead to gentle care of victims, potentially resulting in more arrests and better recollection of details from traumatic events.
This soft interview room is a critical component of Trauma-Informed Care. It allows survivors to feel physically and emotionally safe, which can positively impact the interview process.
