DRUNK DRIVER ARRESTED IN FAIRFIELD GLADE
On New Year’s Eve at just after 11:00 p.m. Officer David Myrick of the Fairfield Glade Police Department was traveling south on Lakeview Dr and saw a dark colored Subaru SUV failed to maintain a consistent speed. The vehicle would speed up to over 30 miles per hour and reduce speed to under 20.
The officer observed the vehicle crossing the center dividing line of the roadway multiple times before turning into Kingsdown Dr. While turning, the driver failed to negotiate the turn and went into the oncoming lane.
This is when the officer initiated a traffic stop and made contact with the driver Carole Retelle. The officer smelled the odor of alcohol coming off of her and saw that she had glossy and bloodshot eyes and slurred speech.
The driver explained that she had a drink with her sister. Retelle was then asked to perform field sobriety tests. However, she would fail these tests. At one point, Retelle was risking injury to herself during the walk-and-turn test, nearly falling several times. Officers had to assist her with balance.
Retelle was charged with driving under the influence and given a citation for failure to maintain her lane. Her vehicle was released to her husband.
