TENNESSEE BILLS COULD REQUIRE WRITTEN DRIVER’S TESTS TO BE IN ENGLISH IF PASSED

Senate Bill SB1373 and House Bill HB0556, sponsored by Republican senator Bo Watson of District 11 and Republican representative Kip Capley of District 71, respectively, were filed into the Tennessee legislature to require all written driver’s license exams to only be offered in English.
As of right now, written driving tests in Tennessee are available in English, Spanish, German, Korean, and Japanese, with translation dictionaries available.
The bill was originally introduced in 2024 then by Kathleen and Republican senator Joey Hensley of District 28, marking this the second time the bill has been put forward.
Should the bill pass, it will take effect on July 1st.
