WOMAN LOSES $2,500 IN PUBLISHERS CLEARING HOUSE SCAM

Last week, Deputy Jordan winningham with a Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office received a phone call from a man saying that his mother had been the victim of fraud. The man said that someone called his mother and told her that they were from publishers clearing House and that she won 2.5 million.

They convinced her that they were going to send her money through her American Express card, so she gave them her information.

The man emailed the deputy screenshots that include the two cash advances they made to themselves, one for $100, and the other for $1,900. He also attached a screenshot of an email showing that they tried to use her PayPal which was connected to the card to buy $499 of coinbase as well as a screenshot of an email that shows they tried to get $4,000 from her venmo which was also connected to the card.

The victim’s son said he is working with her bank and they are trying to get everything shut down.

No arrests have been made, as no suspects have been identified.
