TWO DEAD FROM MONROE COUNTY FIRE ON SATURDAY

From Monroe County Sheriff Tommy Jones:

On Saturday, March 15, 2025, at approximately 10:58 pm, deputies with the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the 700 block of Hawkins Road, Sweetwater in reference to a structure fire. While first responders were en route to the scene, they were advised that two individuals were trapped inside the residence. Multiple fire departments responded to the scene and battled the fully engulfed structure throughout the night.
Monroe County deputies confirmed with the family that two individuals were unaccounted for and were believed to be inside and may have possibly perished. After the fire was finally extinguished, the human remains of two individuals were located and transported to the Regional Forensic Center for identification.
Special agents trained in fire investigation with Tennessee Bureau of Investigation were requested to the scene to assist in the investigation. I greatly appreciate all of the first responders and fire departments that responded to the scene and worked tirelessly to extinguish the fire and assisted in the recovery of the two individuals that lost their lives inside of the residence.
I would like to ask everyone to pray for the family during this tragic time. No victim names will be released at this time, as the investigation is still ongoing.
