HISTORICAL FINDS POSSIBLY DISCOVERED IN WATTS BAR LAKE

From the Roane County Visitor’s Buraeu:
History emerged from Watts Bar Lake last week!
A team of locals set out to uncover the foundation of a historic blockhouse commissioned by John Sevier more than 200 years ago. When TVA lowered the lake level for the search, part of the long-lost foundation was revealed.
Among those on-site were Jack Sims (Fort Southwest Point), David Bolling (City of Kingston), diver Steven Dukes, and drone operator Alex French (both with the Kingston Police Department). Our own Stacey Wilson and Michelle Ray were also on-site and had the incredible opportunity to stand on the historic foundation!
The team believes they may have also located a historic marker of what was then the southwestern corner of the U.S. This marker was placed at the end of the Meigs Line—the first boundary between the Cherokee Nation and the United States that both sides officially recognized.
A huge thank you to everyone who played a part in bringing Kingston’s past back to the surface!
