PICKETT AND MEIGS RANK AMONG TN’S HIGHEST UNEMPLOYMENT RATES

A recent press release by the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development detailed unemployment rates across the state, emphasizing the ten highest and ten lowest.
In February, while most Tennessee counties saw a decline in unemployment rates, Meigs and Pickett Counties stood out with some of the state’s highest figures.
Pickett County recorded a 6.3% unemployment rate, making it the second-highest in Tennessee, despite a drop of seven-tenths of a percentage point from January.
Meigs County followed with a rate of 5.2%, placing it sixth highest in the state. Only 11 counties had rates above 5%, with Cocke County leading at 6.6%.
In contrast, the majority of Tennessee’s counties—84 out of 95—enjoyed rates below 5%, with Williamson County reporting the lowest at 2.6%.
